Imagine getting an offer for an exciting opportunity that will change the course of your life, and this is in the job description:
“The commitment, then, is to sign up for days, weeks, or years of serial incompetence and occasional frustration.”
Would you sign up? Most of us wouldn’t.
But this, according to the brilliant Seth Godin, is the cost of leveling up and succeeding at the change we seek to make.
It’s a commitment to “desirable difficulty.”
The process is difficult in that we constantly face challenges that push us outside our comfort zone of competence. And it’s desirable in that it sets us up “for things that cause a struggle, because we know that after the struggle, we’ll be at a new level.”
In a world where others are “great at multitasking” (not really a thing) or “thrive in a fast-paced environment,” be someone who volunteers for discomfort and embraces failure in the pursuit of meaningful change.
