We all want to belong, to be accepted and understood. It’s hardwired.
But the most consistently happy and truly successful people are those who are willing to be rejected. They’re OK with being misunderstood. (It’s not that they seek it out, but they understand it’s inevitable.)
So, how does a person arrive there? How do they overcome their natural tendency to conform?
Self-acceptance.
In recent years, self-acceptance has come to mean settling. “I’m perfect just the way I am.” No, you’re not. And neither am I. Self-acceptance means sober awareness of one’s limitations and an understanding that you can’t please everyone.
There are things I need to work on. There are blindspots and opportunities for growth. But I’m here and willing to lean into feedback, ruffle a few feathers, and fail forward on my journey. I’d love for you to be a part of that journey, but I’m going either way.
